Carbonifera Beach is located just 5 km from the center of Follonica and owes its name to a picturesque 19th-century stone tower still standing today. The tower once served as a commercial terminal for unloading coal brought from the inland mines via a historic railway line. The atmosphere of this place still retains the charm of its industrial past blended with unspoiled nature.
Visitors can park in a large equipped lot and reach the beach on foot in just about 100 meters. The beach features fine, light-colored sand and is backed by characteristic coastal dunes shaded by maritime pines. Carbonifera Beach is part of the Sterpaia Coastal Park, a protected natural area rich in biodiversity. Youâll find both free public areas and serviced beach clubs. The seabed is shallow and sandy, making it perfect for families with children and those who enjoy safe, calm bathing.
