In the country house, inside the park, is present the breeding of Maremma horses and maremma cattle.The tradition of the so-called “buttero” cowboy is irreplaceable in the Maremma area and at Alberese.The buttero cowboy is the man who sees the livestock.He is a kind of symbol in this old area and stays in the collective imaginary together with the cows with big horns.Nowdays it’s more a question of folklore and there are only few real butteri.At Alberese four butteri from 30 to 40 years old are working. Their life is very hard. They know everything about the cattle.They start working early in the morning to control the herd. Their work becomes much stronger in Spring when new colts and calfs arrive and when the mounting of bulls and stallions starts. 5 days every day on a horse with any kind of weather.
